In this essay i will be writing about the conventions of a typical magazine contents page.
Firstly in the example shown on the left the star in the main image is directly gazing at the audience creating direct address with the reader, this keeps them interested in the feature. Also the main image in this contents page links to the main feature in the magazine. Another conventions of this contents page is the layout of the text, this is in columns so the page is easy to follow and the layout looks professional, The page numbers in the text also anchors to the written contents so that the whole magazine is easy to follow and the reader can easily find the features that interest them the most, overall then the contents page acts almost as a guide to the readers for the full magazine.
Another convention is the colour scheme used, in this case it is simple consisting of three colours, white, red and black, Which could show the magazine is based around the rap genre with the famous 'G-Unit' logo consisting of these colours, also the simplicity of the colour scheme makes the magazine more appealing as the main thing dominating the page is the main image and the text.
Another convention shown in this example is the issue date in the top left which gives the audience a good idea of what the time period the articles featured will be in, but also gives the magazine authenticity. Another convention shown is the clothing style worn by the star in the main image on the page, these items connotate the rap genre and so anchor the feature of 'rap/hip hop lost' in the right hand column.
Another convention shown is that the features are written in an ambigious/bold text to draw the readers attention to them and to make sure the reader has acknowledged that these are the most importan things on the page, even though the image of the star is the main thing dominating the page. This bold text means that the reader will not just flick past it as soon as they have seen the main image.
